Milestone for Spirou

Pelham junior Stephen Spirou became the seventh player in school history and the fastest to reach it last night in a 72-34 blowout of Laconia. Spirou had 22 points in the first half and added a free throw after intermision to reach 1,000 in the 16th game of his junior season, one game before Justin Hojlo did it two years ago.

Pythons win ugly

After a week's layoff and in the midst of mid-term exams, Pelham wasn't sharp but still extracted a 44-36 victory over Souhegan. Junior Mike Lombard (11 points and 9 rebounds) and senior Josh Boissonneault (12 boards) locked up the glass, holding Souhegan to one shot per trip and allowing a shaky Python offense to score enough to win.

Pelham drops first

In a meeting of two of Class I's preseason favorites, a mini-meltdown did Pelham in as host Milford prevailed, 50-45.

Before a packed house of 550, the Pythons suffered their first league defeat via 0 for 6 field goal shooting and 4 of 11 from the foul line in the crucial fourth quarter, seeing a tie game drift away in the final 1 1/2 minutes.

Portsmouth won the championship game last winter, but Pelham got a small slice of revenge with a 61-58 win last night. Stephen Spirou had 23 points and Michael Lombard added 16 points in the win.

Spirou scores 39 points in loss

Junior Stephen Spirou scored a career high 39 points but Pelham still lost 63-53 in the consolation round of the Greater Lowell Holiday Tournament. 

Spirou, a returning Eagle-Tribune all-star, had set a previous career high with 33 points in a first-round lost to Chelmsford on Saturday and is averaging 29.75 points through the Pelham's first four games.
