Glynn, Nicolosi highlight local All-State semifinalists

 

DANVERS — It was a good first day for local wrestlers at the All-State wrestling meet, with a pair of semifinal showdowns set for this morning.

Of particular interest will be the138-pound matchup between Central Catholic's Tyler Glynn (50-2) and Haverhill's Jake Nicolosi (47-4). They met back in December at the WIlmington Tournament with Glynn prevailing.

Prep takes title

 

St. John's Prep's wrestling team defeated Framingham in the finals, 54-18, to capture the Commonwealth Cup tournament. North Andover's Quinn Alexander won both of his matches.

Another league title

 

The St. John's Prep wrestling team smashed Catholic Memorial 72-3 for its 21st straight Catholic Conference title. The Eagles (26-1) have now won 87 straight league meets.

Prep now 21-1

 

St. John's Prep romped to a tri-meet win to improve to 21-1. There were 11 different Eagles who won both their matches including 170-pounder Ben Shaw of North Andover and 138-pounder Ryan Garlitz, who won his 200th match.

Methuen bounces back

 

Methuen bounced back from its first loss of the season with three resounding wins in a quad-meet. Unbeatend Jarmany Colon and Matt Cabezas both had three first-period pins for the Rangers (17-1), CJ Brown had three pins at 160 and Zabian Cruz bumped to 152 and had a solid 10-5 win over Framingham Holiday finalist Nick Mazzuchelli of St. John’s.

North Andover's Quinn Alexander was 4-0 at 126 pounds as St. John's Prep improved to 12-1 with four wins in a super-quad. North Andover's Ben Shaw was 3-1 at 170.
