HUDSON, N.H. - It didn't look too promising for Timberlane early on the road. The Owls were down 14-0 before even running an offensive play. But behind Tyler Furey's 17 carries for 110 yard, the Owls battled back for a 28-14 victory over Alvirne. Both teams records moved to 4-5. Alvirne opened the game with an 80-yard scoring drive. On the ensuing kickoff, the Owls fumbled and Alvirne recovered. A few plays later, Alvirne found its way into the end zone again for a 14-0 lead. But Timberlane settled down from there. Jacob Post - on his only carry of the game - took a handoff 63 yards for a TD to cut the deficit to 14-7 in the second quarter with 1:51 left. Timberlane tied the game on a Furey four-yard run and a Jason Hughes PAT with 4:14 left in the third quarter. The Owls outscored Alvirne 14-0 in the fourth quarter on a Caleb Sharp 10-yard TD reception from Hughes and a Furey 44-yard rushing TD. In addition to his 63 yard carry, Post caught two passes for 57 yards. Hughes completed 4 of 12 passes for 74 yards, one TD and one interception.

PLAISTOW - Jason Hughes kicked a field goal, scored on a touchdown run, threw a touchdown pass, intercepted two passes and kept Merrimack pinned back with his punting.

The junior's jack-of-all-trades performance lifted Timberlane to a 16-7 win over Merrimack on a cold Friday night.

PLAISTOW — Peter Cyr may be foiling the defensive strategy of Pinkerton’s future foes. Michael Curley may be, too. Timberlane found this out Friday night in the unbeaten Astros’ 42-7 victory, The Owls put most of their focus on T.J. Urbanik. The junior standout was impressive enough, rushing for first quarter TDs of 64 and 47 yards and finishing with 144 yards on just nine carries. But, for the second straight week, he had plenty of help, with Cyr leading the way. Cyr scored on a 48-yard run on a reverse at the end of the second quarter and then closed Pinkerton’s scoring with a 45-yard burst up the middle in the third quarter, finishing with 97 yards on just three carries. That gives Cyr, who also plays defense, 187 yards and five touchdowns over the last two weeks. “The line’s really opening some great holes and teams are definitely keying on T.J., which opens things up for me and the other guys,” said Cyr, a 6-foot, 180-pounder. “I think we’re playing really well. We’ve fixed our mistakes and we’re getting pumped up for the playoffs.” Pinkerton coach Brian O’Reilly said that no one should be surprised by Cyr’s recent productivity. “We’re developing depth and Peter has been good all along,” said O’Reilly. “He’s a tough, two-way player — pound for pound, he’s the toughest guy we’ve got. “We’re running the ball really well. It’s a combination of the line — one of the biggest we’ve had — and the backs.” The Astros, who rushed for 312 yards in the first half while taking a 35-0 lead, did show both good line play and hard running, resulting in six touchdowns in a limited number of plays. Pinkerton (7-0) scored on drives of just 2, 3, 2, 4, 4 and 3 plays and no touchdowns covered less than 36 yards. Joining Urbanik and Cyr with long runs was Curley, with a 36-yard jaunt, and sophomore Nico Buccieri, who ran it in from 49 yards out. “We’re trying to progress every week and get through injury free, which I think we did tonight,” said O’Reilly. Defensively, Curley was effective from his linebacking slot and Cyr, lineman Noah Robison and defensive back Isaiah Backels made it tough on the Owls (2-5). Also, junior Kyle Cantalupo was 6 for 6 in extra points. Timberlane scored its lone touchdown on a 3-yard run by Tyler Furey in the third quarter and showed some flashes of a balanced attack thanks to freshman receiver Brendan Frezza, who caught four passes for 115 yards. Frezza showed good moves after making the catch and hauled in a beautiful 51-yard bomb down the sidelines from quarterback Jason Hughes that set up Furey’s TD.

SALEM — For the second consecutive week, Salem saw a huge possession die by downs at the 1-yard line.

Unlike last week, when their drive ended 20 seconds shy of upending a title-contender, the Blue Devils still had clock to play with yesterday.

And they made the most of their time as a safety and interception return helped the Devils score 17 points in fewer than 5 fourth-quarter minutes, powering a 24-21 victory over Timberlane that kept Salem in the playoff chase.

"There were a lot mixed emotions (this past week)," Salem quarterback John Cerretani said about recovering from the tough 7-point loss to Pinkerton the week before. "We were a yard short of beating the No. 1 team in the state. So we had to keep our heads up and work even harder to come back and win our homecoming."

Yesterday nearly was a case of deja vu, however, when Salem's nine-play possession that spanned the final two quarters came to a crashing end when Timberlane's Brian Lonergan delivered the first of several hits that shut down Charles Sibanda's fourth-down run feet shy of success.

Three plays later, though, nose tackle Connor Mullins took the offense off the hook with an end zone tackle of Kyle Foucher that cut Timberlane's lead to 14-9.

Following the free kick, Cerretani capped a six-play drive with a 31-yard scoring pass to Nick Shumski. And when Cerretani found Corey Ortiz for the conversion pass, Salem had it's first lead since Sibanda scored the game's initial touchdown midway through the first.

"Last week was in the back of my mind (after faltering at the 1)," Cerretani said. "But we put our heads back together and came out and ... put some points on the board."

Linebacker Johnny Bartose continued the defensive hits on Timberlane's ensuing possession, returning an interception 11 yards for the clinching score at 24-14 with 4:48 left. "It was very important to make a stop there," said Bartose, who also had 56 yards on seven carries in his second consecutive strong outing at fullback. "Defensively we were strong, but offensively we had to stay together and get things going. This feels very good."

In contrast to its opponent, Timberlane had a positive week after rallying big to snap a 10-game losing streak against Bishop Guertin. And the Owls appeared to have another rally in the works when freshman Jacob Post scored his third touchdown of the day on a 25-yard pass from Jason Hughes, capping a 65-yard drive that needed a mere 70 seconds. But Timberlane was unable to advance past its own 25 on two final possessions.

Playing on a Saturday afternoon when several coaches were able to scout, Post had a coming out party, putting up 104 total yards and a pair of second-quarter scoring runs of 16 and 5 yards that provided a 14-7 halftime lead.

"For the second week in a row, our effort was outstanding," Timberlane coach Kevin Fitzgerald said. "A play there and a play here and things might have been different. I thought the freshman Post was outstanding. He's a play maker, and I think he might have come of age today."

PLAISTOW – Watching Timberlane not only stare down fourth-quarter adversity but also come out on the victorious side, you’d think it was used to game-on-the-line pressure.

Eric Fairweather rushed for four touchdowns and threw for another to lead Londonderry 35-14 over Timberlane.

Fairweather completed 6 of 10 passes for 201 yards.

He connected with receiver Michael Ryan four times for 172 yards.
