Mansour paces Rangers in 7th-place game

Kyle Mansour, whose mother is the Greater Lawrence Tech girls’ coach, tossed in a game-high 12 points to lead Methuen over the Reggies, 62-39, in the seventh-place game. Billy Parker backed him with nine points. Ryan Freeman provided some excitement with two dunks. Papaciro “Big Papi” Ortiz led the Reggies with 10 points.

First-half dominance wins for Andover

In a controlling first-half effort on both ends of the court, Andover strode out to a 22-point lead and held off a late Methuen run for a 58-47 consolation round victory.

James Costello (20 points) and Sam Dowden (13 points) combined for three 3-pointers in a 53-second span of the first quarter, and that run combined with stingy Golden Warrior defense garnered a 19-4 lead that was extended to 24 points early in the second half.

Pinkerton, Central take different routes to semifinals

LAWRENCE — If last night’s quarterfinals were any indication, then Wednesday’s second Greater Lawrence Christmas Tournament semifinal between Pinkerton and Central Catholic will be an extreme contrast of styles. The 7:45 semi showdown was set up when Pinkerton eked out a 43-40 victory over Andover while Central Catholic romped to a 76-35 win over Methuen.

Curran's first

Kyle Mansour pumped in 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Nathan Bueno chipped in with nine points and six rebounds as Methuen (1-2) downed Tewksbury 51-32. It was the first win for first-year coach Matt Curran.
