Methuen girls tennis pulled off an upset victory by beating Andover 3-2.

"Biggest match that we've had and best win of our program since I've been here," said Methuen coach Eileen Malloy who has been coaching at Methuen since 1997 and had never beaten the Golden Warriors until yesterday. "These girls played the match of their lives."

Clinching the win

Needing a win at No. 1 singles to clinch the match, Karmen Chau gritted out a 6-2, 7-5 win to complete a sweep at singles and give Methuen a 3-2 victory. That earned the Rangers a tourney berth.

Comeback kids

Methuen's girls tennis team rode a pair of big comebacks to its first win of the season, 4-1 over Haverhill. Tori Pekarski fought off a 4-0 second-set deficit to win her second singles match in a tiebreaker and the first doubles tandem of Perrine Sechenay and Monique Mai fell behind twice in the first set only to win via tiebreaker en route to a straight-set triumph.
