METHUEN — You would think winning a state wrestling championship would leave a freshman on the verge of ecstasy. But Christian Monserrat showed about as much excitement as if he were ordering a Quarter Pounder — if a 103 pounder allowed himself a fast-food meal that is.

Lawrence dealt with doubt and stress all throughout its improbable run to the state dual-meet title match last night against Springfield Central. So it wasn’t surprising that the Lancers shrugged off a 10-point deficit with four matches left, still feeling they were in good shape to take home their first-ever championship.

NORTH CHELMSFORD — Wrestling might be as individual a sport as there is, but the 50 or so beaming Lawrence wrestlers posing for a team picture yesterday afternoon sure did look like an ecstatic team.

Lawrence's wrestling team completed the Merrimack Valley Conference season undefeated for the first time in one division, clubbing Andover 52-10. Picking up impressive wins for the Lancers (20-2 overall) were 125-pounder Edgardo Rios, who beat Andover's Mike Tiwari 9-2 and 140-pounder Shaquille Fuentes, who edged Andover standout Tito Brito 8-6.

Captains Elvis Genao, Shaquille Fuentes and Juan Rodriguez won three matches each as Lawrence (9-0) beat Salem, Mass., Xaverian and Masconoment in boys wrestling action. Lawrence won 60-15 over Xaverian, 63-1 over Salem and and 60-10 over Masconomet.
