Andover surges to battle with archrival

CARL RUSSO/Staff photo. Andover High School junior, William Gold, who manages the girls' volleyball teams, made a bet with the JV team to shave his head if they went undefeated. Not only did the junior varsity team finish the regular season undefeated, but so did the varsity and freshman teams. Each player got a chance to snip some of his hair before coaches, George Sullivan and Dave Kutkendall finished the job with a shave. William's mother, Elizabeth Gold made a guest appearance and was given the honor of making the first cut. ANDOVER — As if Andover needed anymore confidence following its perfect regular season and easy tourney opener, the Golden Warriors seem to have found a little extra last night.

“It’s all about that confidence,” said Andover coach George Sullivan. “If you’re up, you’re up, and if you’re down you are really down. We got off to a little bit of a slow start, but we regrouped and are very pleased moving on.”

Rolling Warriors

There was no letup for Andover after its big season-opening win over perennial power Chelmsford. Last night the Golden Warriors made it 2-0 by whipping Tewksbury, 3-0. Molly Burke's inspired defense sparked the romp.
