DERRY — On a day when the great filly Zenyatta was unable to wrap up her career undefeated, the Londonderry girls volleyball team had no such problems finishing off its stellar two-year run.

If looks can be deceiving, then do not pay any attention to the fact that No. 3 Salem posted a 3-0 win over No. 6 Hollis-Brookline, in yesterday's quarterfinal action.

"It certainly wasn't a 3-0 match," said Salem head coach Dan Young after his team squeaked out a trip to the semifinals with a sweep game scores of 25-22, 29-27, 26-24.

Jackie Cone led Salem with 17 kills in Salem's win against Exeter 3-1 in volleyball. Salem got their tenth win in a row with the help on Cone and assist leader Sarah Scott, who had 37 during the game.

Sarah Scott scored 28 assists to bring her career assists total to 1,500, as Salem beat Manchester Memorial 3-0 in volleyball.

Sarah Scott, who already has 1,000 assists and is closing in on 1,500, reached her 500th service point as Salem (11-3) swept Timberlane. 

Sophomores Bri Wojtas and Rachel Morrissey had breakout performances to spark Salem volleyball past Goffstown 3-0.

Sarah Scott had 27 assists and a whopping 22 service points with five aces as the Salem volleyball team (6-3) swept Keene 25-11, 25-13, 27-25. 

Sarah Scott tallied 27 assists and 13 service points as Salem dealt Pinkerton its first loss of the season, 25-18, 25-21, 25-23. Stephanie Long added 12 digs for the winners.

Salem's volleyball team showed tremendous serving process in a three-game sweep of Manchester Central. The Blue Devils (4-2) finished with a stunning 23 aces on the afternoon, led by Sarah Scott with four. All 12 players on the team had at least one ace. 

Junior Jackie Cone played with newly-found confidence and senior Melissa Ouellet seized on her moment to shine, both leading Salem to a 3-2 volleyball victory over Bishop Guertin. "We're really young and our learning curve is huge," said head coach Dan Young. "(Last night's) lesson was, if we're not ready to play, the other teams are. We're learning to battle."
