Anything under 10 points we won.  Those kids have been through so many different tournaments.  We are going to miss them a lot.

North Andover barely beats Gloucester in tourney opener

NORTH ANDOVER — Nikki Karalis missed the easy shots but knocked down the difficult ones against Gloucester in the Division 2 North first round yesterday.

The North Andover senior swished two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. Her second 3 gave her her team the lead for good with 2 minutes, 53 seconds left in the game.

North Andover tops MVC member Chelmsford

Freshman Morgan Lumb continued her outstanding freshman season as she scored 13 points to lead North Andover past Chelmsford, 47-39.

Junior Caitlyn Enright added 10 points while Erica Zahoruiko and and Katie Moroney each grabbed seven rebounds. Amanda Foote had six assists for the 13-6 Knights.

Katie Maroney netted a career-best 11 points, grabbed seven rebounds and seven steals and North Andover downed archrival Masconomet 52-43. The Knights improved to 12-6, a crucial win against the Chieftains (13-7).

Moroney, Foote steal victory

Triton's hustle and solid rebounding forced North Andover into 21 percent shooting from the field, but the Scarlet Knights fended off a 10-point deficit with 4 1/2 minutes left to force overtime. The offense came alive in the extra session, denying the Vikings their upset bid in a 39-33 struggle to victory.

Pentucket's girls basketball team clamped down on North Andover early, rushing to a 19-4 lead on its way to a 51-23 victory. Erin McNamara led the way for the Sachems (18-0) with 19 points.

The offense doesn't score alot, but North Andover's defense certainly makes sure that they hold the opposition down enough to earn the win.

Breaking the 50-point plateau

North Andover hit 50 points for the first time this year and did so with a balanced scoring attack that was led by Erika Zahoruiko's double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.  Julia Titone added nine points and the trio of Amanda Foote, Morgan Lumb and Katie Maroney each had four steals. Alex Medlock had a strong defense game and chipped in with four points.

Knight's hang on

Freshman Morgan Lumb hit 3-of-4 critical free throws down the stretch as North Andover had to hang on for dear life, 41-40, after stopping Newburyport's last second attempt.  Lumb continued to her oustanding freshman season with a 13-point effort, which included a pair of 3-pointers. Nicole Zahoruiko had 12 for the Knights.
