No ties this time

HAVERHILL: Andover's, Rachel Moore competes in the 400 yard freestyle relay race in a swim meet against Haverhill. The relay team of Moore, Emma Cammann, Maggie D'Innocenzo and Monica Patterson captured first place in the race to help Andover defeat Haverhill 108 -70. Carl Russo photo. 9/25/2009. 5 Photos

Andover swept all events in a 108-70 win over Haverhill and went 1-2 in nine of the 12 events. Maggie D'Innocenzo and Monica Patterson each won two events and each were part of two winning relay teams.

All in the family

Haverhill swimming fell to Chelmsford but as always several family connections shined for the Hillies. Cousins Emily and Maggie Opolski were part of four wins. Winning diver Erin Driscoll is the niece of former Hillie star diver and current Brown and Gold diving coach Becky Driscoll.

Opolskis make waves

Haverhill has a strong core of senior leadership but co-captain Emily Opolski rose above the pack in a season-opening 88-80 victory over Central Catholic at Lawrence YMCA. Emily won the 200 IM (2:18.41) and 100 butterfly (1:03.21) and swam legs on two winning relays, anchoring the 400 freestyle relay. Sister Maggie Opolski mirrored Emily, winning the 100 freestyle (58.29) and 100 backstroke (1:04.81) as well as the two relays. Hannah Mitchell was the Raiders' standout, taking top honors in the 200 and 500 freestyle.
