No. 10 Andover downed No. 23 New Bedford 16-2 in the preliminary round of the Division 1 East boys lacrosse tournament. The Golden Warriors will travel to No. 7 Xaverian on Saturday at 1 p.m. 

A quick start in the second half provided Andover's boys lacrosse team ample cushion in a 10-8 non-league victory over Waltham. Junior Joe Kuta powered the offense with four goals and Jake Gostanian was the backbone in the net for the Golden Warriors (11-6).

Matt Eriksen netted a game-high six goals (and an assist) and Josh Torres (two goals and five assists) tallied seven points as Andover dropped Chemlsford, 17-5.

Andover pitched a second-half shutout, leading to a 12-4 victory over Masconomet and a berth in the stste tournament. Gavin McIver was a consistent winner of faceoffs and did well on offensive transition. The Golden Warrior defense (Jimmy Johnson, Matt Murray, Vinny Christiano and Andrew Carroll) was exemplary in front of goaltender Jake Gostanian (seven saves).

Jake Gostanian made nine saves and Jimmy Johnson exceled on defense as Andover held Central Catholic to one goal in the second half on the way to a 9-6 victory.

Matt Eriksen potted the game-winner with 2:45 remaining on the man advantage to give Andover a 9-8 win over Lexington. Eriksen and Gavin McIver both had hat tricks and two assists, and Jake Gostanian recorded nine saves.

"This has a special meaning when it is Andover-North Andover," said Knights coach Steve Connolly. "We needed a win like this against a quality team, and it’s always a great game when we get together. We feel fortunate."

ANDOVER — Andover defender Jimmy Johnson threw his stick to the turf and stared at the trees in disbelief.

That dejection permeated the team after the Golden Warriors fell to fellow unbeaten Billerica 10-9 in a triple-overtime thriller.

Joe Lamagna scored five times to lead perfect Andover (5-0) to a 12-6 win over Chelmsford. The Golden Warriors exploded for five unanswered goals in the third period to break open a 4-4 intermission.  Josh Torres (three goals, one assist) and Connor Gaffney (2 goals, 2 assists) were both key contributors to back Jake Gostanian's 12-save performance.
