METHUEN, Mass. — It was mission accomplished for standout pitcher Sarra Bergeron and the rest of the Methuen seniors last night.
The Rangers have enjoyed fine seasons the last three years, winning 16 games each of the last two years, but the Methuen Invitational Tournament title had always eluded them. Last night, they made certain that the void would be filled, cruising to an 8-1 victory over North Andover at the Burnham Road softball complex.

Rebecca Armstrong was 3 for 5 with five RBIs and winning pitcher Sarra Bergeron, who threw a three-hitter, was also 3 for 5 with three RBIs. Abbey Carbonneau was 3 for 4 and scored twice.

Sophomore Becca Caterino provided the productive at-bats for the Rangers (9-3) as a third-inning ground-out scored a run, a single in the fifth tied the game, and a base hit in the sixth yielded a big insurance tally. Paige Fleming pitched in with a perfect 3-for-3 effort including a double and a walk. For the Golden Warriors (5-9), Jeanette Doucette thrived at the top of the order with a pair of hits and a run scored.
