Derek Murphy tossed in 11 points to lead Brooks in a comfy, 61-37, tuneup win over Thayer. The competition level takes a giant leap up on Wednesday when St. Mark's and University of Florida-bound Erik Murphy invade North Andover.

Thanks to tight defense from Adam Skaggs and Brian Russell in the final moment, Phillips prevented a final shot and held on to defeat neighboring rival Brooks 48-46. Skaggs added a team-high 12 points.

Brooks zoomed to a 19-2 start and never let up on the defensive end in a 55-31 victory over Milton Academy. Derek Murphy (16) and Jordan Johnson (15) led the offense.

Junior Jason Buco tossed in a career-high 15 points, none bigger than the four straight free throws in the final two minutes that lifted Brooks past BB&N, 59-55.

The 6-foot-1 guard from Methuen added eight rebounds and five assists in what coach John McVeigh termed a "superb all-around game."

Jordan Johnson hit six 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 20 points as Brooks downed Brebuf of Montreal, 57-48.

Tied at 50 with three seconds to go in the game, Jon Stronach drew a foul and hit the two subsequent free throws to give Brooks the lead en route to a 54-50 win over Groton. Stronach finished with just four points, while Matt Lanchantin contributed a double-double.

Brooks continued to gain momentum after its season opening win over New Hampton this past Wednesday, downing Pingree, 55-38, to improve to 2-0.

Jordan Johnson was flat-out dominant, draining seven field goals, including four threes, for a game-high 18 points. For the second straight game, Jason Buco (seven points, seven rebounds) staggered the opposition on defense, and Tim Glen racked up a double-double thanks to a 12-point, 12-rebound performance, both career highs.
