Lawrence improved its program-best win total to 21 as the Lancers drubbed Tewksbury 59-6. Melvin Rivera and Anthony Almanzar each had a pin for the Lancers (21-4-1).

With Lawrence leading by only one point heading into the final match, heavyweight Pedro Cruz made quick work of his foe, recording a pin in just 10 seconds to cement a 41-34 victory over Chelmsford. Jorge Aquino (103) added a pin in just 41 seconds.

Missing five starters, Lawrence downed Lexington 57-24 but fell to Shawsheen 44-24. Jose Varela (215), Melvin Rivera (119) and Pedro Cruz (heavy) each went 2-0 for the Lancers (7-2).

Lawrence wrestling's Pedro Cruz earned a big win over Josiah Quincy's Dante Wilson, who finished third in the state last year. Cruz, a heavyweight, pinned Wilson in overtime. Kevin Valerio had a big day as well, going 3-0. The Lancers swept Masconomet, Andover and Josiah Quincy.

LAWRENCE — On a day when power was still out throughout much of the region, the Lawrence wrestling team opened its season with a jolt of momentum.

The Lancers, who had their best record (18-6) in history last year, swept Pentucket 54-26, Reading 43-27 and — in a dramatic comeback — perennial power St. John’s Prep 36-31 in a competitive quad-meet.
