Wholley makes an impact

Methuen narrowly defeated Lowell, 94-92, in the Rangers' last regular-season meet. Methuen improved to 9-4, which coach Jason Smith says is the best finish in program history. Senior captain Erin Wholley had a big day, picking up two thirds.

Methuen locks down MVC small title

Methuen High clinched its fifth straight Merrimack Valley Division 2 title, rolling up 101-79 win over Billerica.
"That's five straight, four with (Laura) Moriarty and one after her," joked Methuen High swim coach Jason Smith, who lauded this team's efforts rebounding from the loss of the All-American to graduation.

Arsenault's assault

The Methuen girls swimming team topped Melrose 94-76 thanks in large part to impressive performances by Meaghan Arsenault and Maggie Conlon. Arsenault took the top spot in the 50-meter freestyle (27.02) and the 500-meter freestyle (5:51.67), and she swam the first leg of the winning 200 medley (2:07.92) and 400 freestyle relays (4:16.23). Conlon finished first in the 200-meter IM (2:24.02) and 100-meter backstroke (1:10.61) in addition to being on both relay teams. The Rangers improved to 7-4 with the victory.

Arsenault, Carbonneau spark Methuen victory

Early victories for Chanelle Arsenault in the 200 freestyle and Abbey Carbonneau in the 200 individual medley set the tone in Methuen's 93-84 triumph over St. Peter Marian in Worcester. Meaghan Aresnault, Chanelle's sister, won the 50 freestyle and was part of three winning relay teams for the Rangers (3-4).

Chelmsford 98, Methuen 80

 

Methuen goes 1-2 in backstroke but falls

Methuen lost to undefeated Chelmsford, but the Rangers did claim the top two spots in the backstroke with Meaghan Arsenault winning in the event in a time of 1:07.96. Maggie Conlon was right behind Arsenault, finishing at 1:07.97.

Methuen 96, Dracut 84

Methuen swimming defeated Dracut 96-84. Abbey Carbonneau won the 50 and 100 freestyle, and was part of Methuen's winning 200 and 400 free relay teams. Maggie Conlon also contributed wins in the 200 individual mdley and the 100 breaststroke.

Andover freshman Moore shines in debut

Freshman Rachel Moore won the 100 freestyle in 2:13.40 and swam on the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays to lead Andover to a season-opening 100-78 victory over Methuen. Fellow freshman Nina Mazzarelli took the 200 freestyle and defending state champion Katie O'Connell won the diving for the Golden Warriors. For the Rangers, Meaghan Arsenault took the 100 backstroke in 1:06.07 and swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay.
