Gillette dazzles, Andover wins North title

READING — With a trip to the state semifinals on the line, Andover's Paige Gillette refused to crack.

The goalie turned in a whopping 32 saves, keeping unbeaten No. 1 seed Acton-Boxboro scoreless through regular and two overtimes, and No. 3 seed Andover delivered in the penalty stroke shootout to earn a, technically, 1-0 victory and the Division 1 North championship.

Andover takes out Natick

 

The Andover field hockey team is back in the Division 1 North final, where it's been nine of the last 10 years, following a 1-0 victory over a strong Natick club. Sydney Gregory scored the lone goal on a corner with an assist to Hanna Medwar and Paige Gillette made seven saves in goal.

Medwar to rescue

Hanna Medwar scored both goals, the second one in OT, as No. 6 Andover shaded No. 3 Lexington, in the Division 1 North field hockey quarterfinals. Paige Gillette "was spectacular" with 13 saves. Hailey Doherty, Kate Gemmell and Abby Miller also came up big for AHS.

The North Andover field hockey team battled to a solid 1-1 tie against perenial power Andover thanks to a massive 23-save effort from goalie Jenna Bard. Lexi Rivet opened the scoring for the Knights (7-4-5) in the first half before Heather Graham tied it up a little less than three minutes before the break.
