Methuen enjoyed a great season, but as coach Matt Twomey said, "It just ended too soon."

The Rangers took a 2-0 lead against Masconomet last night but fell, 16-25, 16-25, 25-14, 25-18, 15-12, in the Division 1 North quarterfinals.

Performance of the day

Carolyn Eddy scored 20 service points and added 28 assists, both team highs, as Central Catholic downed rival Methuen 25-17, 27-25, 25-17 in a battle for two of the top teams in the MVC. Maggie Hillman added team highs in kills (10) and digs (21) for the Raiders (12-0-1). The Rangers fell 10-2.

Methuen coach Matt Twomey offered plenty of praise for Lawrence's Jadith Lorenzo. "She's the best player around," he said. The senior led the Lancers with with 27 kills, 16 blocks, and 23 service points in a 25-21, 25-18, 19-25, 30-28 win over the Rangers.

Decade-long wait

For the first time in ten years, the Methuen girls volleyball team beat Andover in straight sets (25-16, 25-15, 25-10). "The girls have been working real hard all year long and they were very fired up for this game tonight," said coach Matt Twomey. "Everybody pulled their weight tonight, it was a nice team win."

Methuen stayed perfect (5-0) after topping Lowell, 25-14, 20-25, 25-20, 25-21. Setter Rebecca Guselli finished with 29 assists while Amanda Armstrong served and played well defensivley with 30 serves in, three aces and 14 digs. Caitlyn Berube finished with 33 digs.

Methuen rallied from two games down to beat Billerica 25-22, 23-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-13. Rebecca Guselli dished out 30 assists and totalled 20 digs for the Rangers. Rashidat Agboola hammered 17 kills and five blocks up front, and outside hitter Taylor Gillette added five kills and 19 digs for the winners.

Rangers get past Hillies

Methuen beat Haverhill 22-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-21. Elaina Guzman chipped in with 16 assists and Rashidat Agboola added nine kills and three blocks.

Courtney Murach also added 11 kills and eight aces. Hannah Davis had 13 kills and three blocks for the Hillies.
