Whittier Tech lost a heartbreaking pitching duel in the State Vocational semifinals, 1-0 to Greater New Bedford, the defending Division 2 state champions. Nicole Verrette threw a nifty 4-hitter, striking out seven for the Wildcats (17-4) but Jenna Sylvia allowed just two hits for Greater New Bedford (19-2), which scored in the bottom of the seventh with two outs after a rundown between third base and home.

Whittier Tech tuned up for the State Vocational Softball Tournament this week with an impressive 7-1 victory over Greater Lowell.

Nicole Verrette had another tremendous day pitching, throwing a two-hitter while striking out 16 batters while Alicia Habib and freshman Jaclyn Bioren both hit home runs. Bioren has been on a tear recently for the Wildcats (17-3) and was 2 for 3 overall with three RBIs.

Nicole Verrette did it all for Whittier Tech Monday in an 11-0 shutout of Greater Lawrence. The senior ace threw a no-hitter, striking out 16, had a home run among her three hits, scored four runs and drove in four runs. Two freshmen had good days as Jaclyn Bioren was 3 for 4 with an RBI and Jennell Gonzalez was 2 for 3 with three RBIs.

Nicole Verrette opened Whittier's 12-2 win over Northeast by striking out the first 15 batters she faced, and finished with 16 on the day. Alicia Habib hit a home run and knocked in three RBIs for the Wildcats.

Nicole Verrette did a bit of everything in Whittier softball's 13-1 win over Shawsheen. The senior clubbed two triples and a double, scored two runs, drove in two runs and tossed a one-hitter on the mound with nine strikeouts.

Whittier Tech's softball team had an easy time of it against Innovation Academy, winning 17-0 on its way to qualifying for the state tournament. Alyssa Michel was 2 for 4 with a triple and four RBIs for the Wildcats (10-1) and Alicia Habib got the win, allowing one hit over five innings while striking out seven.

Whittier rallied with two runs in the seventh to edge Wilmington, 4-3. Alicia Habib, Alyssa Michel and KJ Campbell had big hits in the comeback win for the surging Wildcats (9-1).

Nicole Verrette had an average game for Whittier softball, meaning she threw a 4-hitter, striking out 11, as the Wildcats whipped Lowell Catholic 10-1 for their seventh win in eight games. 

Alyssa Michel and KJ Capmbell provided the power out the No. 3 and No. 4 spot in the order, going a combined 5 for 9 with eight RBIs to lead Whittier to a 12-0 win over Mystic Valley in six innings. Pitcher Nicole Verrette had 12 strikeouts to bring her career totals to 486.
