NECC advances pair

 

In its first competitive season since 2000, the Northern Essex Community College golf team will send two individual qualifiers to the NJCAA Championships being held June 4-7 in Chautauqua, NY. With the regional held at The Ranch Golf Club in Southwick, Anthony Calvani of Amesbury fired a two-day score of 166 (81-85) to tie for the individual medalist honors, losing out in a playoff for top honors. Brandon Mullarkey of Reading  finished third with a 168 (81-87) to also advance.

Mikey Gendreau got his first varsity action on the mound Friday ... with the bases loaded and one out trying to save a 10-8 game. But the Pelham sophomore got the tense final two outs to close out the win for the Pythons.

Captain Hook

Tyler Pike got his first pitching experience for Pelham in relief of starter J.J. Jepson, and struck out the side in the his one inning of work in an 8-0 win over Manchester West. "He throws this loopy curveball from a weird slot," said Pelham coach Joe Morin. "We call him Captain Hook!"

Pike lifts Pythons

A two-run double from Tyler Pike highlighted a six-run sixth inning that broke the game open in Pelham's 7-4 win over Milford. J.J. Jepson pitched 6.1 strong innings with five strikeouts in the win.
