For the second straight year, Andover edged Lawrence in wrestling, this time by a 40-37 score. Kelvin Davila looked impressive at 152 with a pin in 1:29 for the Warriors, who improved to a best-ever 20-8.

Lawrence rebounds

 

After a lopsided loss to powerhouse Springfield Central in the quarterfinals of the Division 1 State Dual Meet tourney, Lawrence rebounded with a solid 42-37 win over Framingham to gp 2-1 on the day.Jaycob Zapata won the clinching match by pin for the win over Framingham and Luis Mauricio (106) and John Vazquez were both unbeaten on the day.

5-second pin

Not much can be accomplished in five seconds, but don't tell that to Matt Cabezas. The Methuen wrestling senior broke the school record for the fastest pin, beating his opponent in a ridiculous five seconds to fuel the Rangers to a 51-26 win over Lawrence.

Lancers win dual tourney

 

Brandon Santell remained unbeaten and his pin in 48 seconds virtually clinched a 40-30 victory over Salem in the finals of the Merrimack Dual Meet Tournament.

Santell and Jon Velilla alternated between 220 and heavyweight as Lawrence won five meets, clipping Melrose 38-33 in the semifinals, to win the tournament and improve to 19-7 on the year.

The heavy Lancers

 

Brandon Santell and Jon Vellila split dutiers at 220 and heavyweight and both were undefeated and Eric Sanchez bumped up to 195 for a pin against standout Derek DiMascio to help Lawrence edge Wakefield 39-37 on its way to a quad-meet sweep to improve to 12-4 on the year. Also against Wakefield, freshman Angel Miranda had an impressive win at 182 in the win.

Lancers sweep quad

 

Lawrence swept a rare Friday quad-meet with Natick, Masconomet and Salem (Mass.) to improve to 8-3. Juan Medina had three first-period pins and both Eric Sanchez and Brandon Santell remained undefeated.

Santos clinches it

 

Sophomore Eddy Santos had a big pin at 220 to clinch Lawrence's 50-30 win over Tewksbury. Brandon  Santell bumped up to 285 and had an impressive 5-3 win over Tewksbury standout Dylan Chandler who placed at All states at 285 last year.

 Back from an injury. Eric Sanchez won three times at 182 pounds, including once in overtime, to spark Lawrence to two of three wins in a rugged quad-meet at Salem, N.H.

Luis Mayricio, Michael Hernandez, Chris Bueno and Brandon Santell were all 3-0 on the day as Lawrence whipped Reading and Nashoba but fell to Rhode Island Cumberland.

In a meet in which there were no decisions, Lawrence romped past Greater Lawrence 60-24. Brandon Santell had a pin in 1:06 at 220 pounds while heavyweight Jon Velilla followed with a fall at 2:26.
