For the second straight year, Andover edged Lawrence in wrestling, this time by a 40-37 score. Kelvin Davila looked impressive at 152 with a pin in 1:29 for the Warriors, who improved to a best-ever 20-8.

Robbins sparks Andover

 

Luciano Robbins had a big day for Andover going 3-0 at 138 pounds as Andover continued its recent surge by sweeping a quad-meet at Goffstown to improve to 19-8. Kelvin Davila, Elias Maita, Pat Fragile and Ethan Coyle were also unbeaten on the day.

Sweep for Andover

 

Lukas Kaufman-LaDuc lead the way with three pins as Andover swept a quad-meet to improve to 15-8.  Connor Sheehan 170  and Nendoe Caleb Gleekia 160 stepped in due to a couple of injuries and performed well.

Warriors on rise

 

Andover continued its recent upswing by winning three of four meets, its only loss coming to BC High, 41-36. Elias Maita was 4-0 at 160 and Sean Ballou was 4-0 split between 170 and 182. The Warriors are now 12-7.

Bouncing back up

Disaster struck when Andover 152-pounder Kelvin Davila was taken down with 13 seconds left in the third period to send his match into overtime. But Davila didn't let it get to his head, and he came back to win his match 9-7 in OT to help the Warriors earn a big 36-29 win over Dracut.

Coyle takes 3rd

 

Andover heavyweight Ethan Coyle took standout Dylan Chandler to the limit in the semifinal, losing 3-2, and then rebounded to take third place at the Woburn Tournament. St. John's Prep won the tournament and the Warriors came in 12th. Elias Maita won four straight matches at 160 to finish fifth and Sean Ballou came in fourth at 170.

Sheehan delivers fast

 

In his first varsity match, Connor Sheehan had a pin in 15 seconds to highlight Andover's 33-13 win over Leominster. Miles Fraser and Elias Maita also had first-minute pins.

Lawrence swept a rare Friday quad-meet with Natick, Masconomet and Salem (Mass.) to improve to 8-3. Juan Medina had three first-period pins and both Eric Sanchez and Brandon Santell remained undefeated.

Ethan Coyle is showing that he'll be a force to be reckoned with this year at heavyweight. The Andover senior had three first period pins, including in 10 and 12 seconds, to win his first tournament crown and pace Andover to second place at the Londonderry Tournament.
