Rangers close with win

 

Methuen's boys soccer team was determined to end the season with a win and it did just that, scoring three goals in the first half to defeat Lawrence 3-2 for its only victory of the season. Julian Lopez, Jermain Foster and Caio Fort scored for the Rangers and Rudy Campos had three assists. Kyle Tremblay made several nice saves in goal.

One-touch magic

Lawrence boys soccer was playing spolier against a Billerica team that needed a win to qualify for the state tournament. Tied 1-1 late in the second half, Billerica sent everyone up on the attack in search for the winning goal. But that all changed when Anthony Gaitan stole the ball at midfield and passed it to freshamn Brandon Ramirez, who then sent a nice one-touch pass back. Gaitan curled in the winning goal from just outside the 18-yard-line to give the Lancers a 2-1 win.

Van the Man

Tanner Van Cor scored two second-half goals as Haverhill beat Lawrence, 2-1. Matthew Corliss turned aside five Lancer shots.

Ramirez leads LHS

Trailing 2-1 early in the second half, Lawrence roared back with three goals off corner kicks. Brandon Ramirez had two of the corners Lester Navichoque had the other. Ramriez also scored a goal whille Jesus Guzman, Denis Cano, Ebed Ixlaj also scored. It was a big win for coach Edgar Escalante, who celebrated his 27th birthday.

Central Catholic 1, Lawrence 1

Jesus Guzman scored off a rebound of a Bryan Salguero corner kick with 18 minutes left in the game to give Lawrence a 1-1 tie with Central Catholic. Alex Suarez was brilliant for LHS with 11 saves, including a beauty on a 1-on-1 situation with four minutes to play. The Lancers had lost six straight to the Raiders since a win in the 2013 season opener.
