Sachems pick up win

Pentucket baseball broke an 11-game losing streak, beating Amesbury 7-6 for the team's second victory of the year. Jake Etter picked up the win as the Sachems shook off a six-run Amesbury second inning with three in the third, one in the fourth and three in the fifth to get the win. Joe Lynch also went 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI.

Whittier eliminates Amesbury

Matt Michel came in the game with the bases loaded in a tie game in the sixth and got Whittier out of a jam and then got the win in a 4-3 win over Amesbury. Josh O'Brien had an RBI double in the seventh to account for the winning run for the Wildcats. Amesbury, now eliminated from postseason contention, was led by Logan Burrill (3 for 4) and Thomas Flanagan (2 for 3).

Amesbury stays alive

The Amesbury baseball team kept its state tournament dream alive with an 8-6 win over Ipswich. The Indians fell behiind 6-3 after allowing six runs in the top of the fifth, but then answered with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away. Derek Doherty went 3 for 4 with two runs out of the leadoff spot,  Derek Beaupre also had two hits and two RBIs, and Graham Gannett took a no hitter into the fifth before Thomas Flanagan picked up his first win in relief. Amesbury is now 6-10 and will face Whittier Tech on Wednesday.

Royals clinch

Georgetown baseball punched its ticket to the state tournament, beating Amesbury 8-6 to improve to 10-4 on the season. Ethan Block and Max Girouard each had two hits and two RBIs, and Kyle Greenler allowed one earned run over five innings to get the win. Amesbury was led at the plate by Derek Beaupre, who had two RBIs and scored a run.

Fast start

Amesbury took a 6-0 lead by the top of the second inning and cruised from there, beating Greater Lawrence 7-2. Blake Bennett pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run on two hits with nine strikeouts, and he also went 2 for 4 with a run and two RBIs out of the three hole.

Lagos keys win

Amesbury pitcher Luke Lagos got the job done for the Indians this weekend, leading his team to a 10-7 win over Rockport after allowing three earned runs with eight strikeouts over six innings while also going 2 for 4 with five RBIs out of the cleanup spot. Blake Bennett also went 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI, Logan Burrill drove in two, Tucker Molin went 3 for 4 with two runs and Graham Gannett went 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

Royals walk off

Tim Chianca hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Georgetown an exciting 4-3 extra innings win over Amesbury. Brendan Willis got the win after pitching four scoreless innings of relief, and he also hit three hits and a run scored at the plate. Amesbury got a great performance on the mound from Graham Gannett, who went seven innings and allowed one earned run while striking out three. Logan Burrill went 2 for 4 with a run and Blake Bennett had two RBIs in the first inning.

Bennett's big day

Amesbury's Blake Bennett had a monster day in Saturday's 16-4 win over Ipswich. The junior went 2 for 2 with a three-run home run and a two-run double. He also scored two runs and picked up his first win on the mound, striking out nine over 3.1 innings. Logan Burill also walked four times and scored three runs, Luke Lagos had two doubles and an RBI and Derek Doherty had two hits, including a two-run double, along with two stolen bases.
