Salem rolls to win in tourney opener

Chris Wilson scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to help lead No. 8 Salem to a 7-3 win over No. 9 Nashua South-Pelham in the New Hampshire Division 1 first round.
 
"We played a strong game tonight," said Blue Devils coach Mark McGinn. "A lot of guys stepped up."

 
Anthony Survilas (assist) was one of five Devils with a single goal each, while goalie Brady Roux made 18 saves and had an assist on a goal. Salem will next travel to take on Concord in the Division 1 quarterfinals. The time is tentatively set for 7:30 p.m.

Doomsday stretch

Salem boys hockey had a tough, 4-3, loss to Exeter. The Blue Devils were assessed a five-minute penalty in the second period, and Exeter score three of its goals during that stretch. The Blue Devils peppered 16 shots on goal in the third period, but couldn't find the equalizer.

Pappalardo heroics

With 22 seconds left in regulation in a tie game, Salem's Sebastian Farah created a turnover in the neutral zone and fed a nice pass to Ryan Pappalardo. The freshman skated into the zone and fired a shot from the top of the circle that beat the Trinity goalie top shelf and gave the Blue Devils a 3-2 victory.

Genest just won't quit

With 58 seconds left and trailing by a goal, Salem's Ben Genest fought for position in front of Londonderry's net until a juicy rebound found his stick and he put it home. It was Genest's second goal of the game, and it helped the Blue Devils, who scored three goals in the third period, earn a 4-4 tie. Sebastian Farah had four assists, and brothers Matt and Ryan Pappalardo each scored.
