Whittier had a payback game against Ipswich, which defeated Whittier earlier in the season. Kayle Hobbs (17) and Kaley Thibault (14) led the way as the Cats (10-10) clinched a state tourney berth with a 62-59 win. Sophomore Rachel McGrath added 9 points and 7 rebounds.

O'Connor is back

Amesbury's Flannery O'Connor looked like her old self on Thursday night, scoring 22 points to lead Amesbury to a 51-29 win over Ipswich. Amesbury got eight 3-pointers from Catherine Laforte, Ciara Sullivan, Sadie Kermelewicz and Mary Bullis, and Alli Napoli was able to hang back as point guard and direct the offense without having to score much herself.

Pentucket continues to throttle everyone in its path, this time holding Ipswich to 21 points in a 60-21 win on Tuesday. Jess Galvin led the Sachems with 15 points in a balanced team offensive effort. The team is now 16-1 on the season.

Triton girls basketball picked up wins on back to back nights, following Monday's win over Saugus with a 53-28 win over Ipswich on Tuesday. Meredith Kennedy scored a season-high 18 points, and Izzy Cambece added 11 points. Triton is now 6-7 going into Friday's game against Pentucket.

Freshman Sadie Kermelewicz had a big day in her first career varsity start, helping Amesbury to its most balanced offensive performance of the season in a 54-43 win over Ipswich. Flannery O'Connor (14 points) and Alli Napoli (13 points) were the leading scorers.

Newburyport wins Institution for Savings title

The Newburyport girls basketball team outlasted Ipswich 35-28 to win the Institution for Savings Holiday Tournament title on Thursday. Anna Hickman led the way with 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and Krysta Padellaro added 11 points to pace the Clippers. Newburyport is now 4-0 on the season and has beaten Ipswich twice.
