All nine of Methuen's starters recorded a hit in the Rangers' 5-1 win over Tewksbury. Jordan Perdomo went 2 for 3 with an RBI and also threw a complete game two-hitter with 11 strikeouts, and freshman Derek Hoh made a spectacular run-saving catch in his first varsity start.

Carpenter throws no-hitter

Most no-hitters come with some spectacular plays in the field, and that was the case when Central Catholic's Joey Sanchez made a terrific running catch in the top of the seventh to preserve junior Nate Carpenter's no-no. The catch did result in a sacrifice fly, causing Carpenter to have an earned run, but he still worked seven innings without a hit allowed and with five strikeouts.

Merrimack sweeps

 Merrimack College swept Bentley College in softball, 3-2 and 7-3.

 

Continuing to be red-hot as it nears the midway point of the season, the Merrimack College softball team registered its eighth consecutive victory and its fourth straight win since opening Northeast-10 Conference divisional play with a sweep at Bentley, 3-2 and 7-3, on Wednesday afternoon.
