Hornets close out Vikings with seven-goal burst

Like basketball, lacrosse is a game of runs.

How else could you explain yesterday's girls lacrosse game between Manchester Essex and Triton ? The Hornets were up 6-2 at the half before the Vikings tied it at six and later eight. Finally, Manchester Essex closed the game with an impressive seven-goal run en route to a 15-8 win. The Hornets (7-6) never trailed but the margin didn't feel safe until the final whistle.

Hartford's eight points give Georgetown the lead in CAL Div. 2

Georgetown (10-4) overcame a 6-3 halftime deficit to take sole possession of the lead in the Cape Ann League Division 2 standings. Shannon Hartford notched four goals and four assists for the Royals. Alyssa Rosenthal added two goals. Michelle Reilly had a goal and an assist. Kelly Burke, Emily Messelaar and Kristen Pingree scored a goal each. April Surrett made 10 saves. Pauline Reilly and Katherine Falzereno played well defensively according to Royals coach Heather Hartford.

Ipswich beats Triton with early onslaught

The Tigers (2-1) blitzed to a 7-2 lead at hafltime and held on for dear life after the break as Triton came storming back. Ipswich came away with an 11-10 win.

Erin Vana led the offense with a hat trrick while Lyndsay French had two goals and an assist and Kim Corkum added a pair of goals with a helper. Sarah Mallard chipped in a goal to go with two assists.

While the season is still young, the uncomfortably cold temperatures could not cool off a potent Triton attack that always seemed in control against River Rival Newburyport to earn the Vikings' second straight victory, 11-5.

Second half comeback sparks Masco victory

For a long time it looked like the Masconomet Regional girls lacrosse team was going to kick off its season with loss. Then, after a difficult first half, the Chieftains got things together.

Heather Fraser scored the game-winner with about two minutes to play as Masco erased an early deficit for an opening day 8-7 win over Triton.
