Rooks overcomes cramps to lead Andover to North Finals

The Andover boys tennis team is headed back to the Division 1 North Finals after beating Newton South 3-2 thanks in large part to a gritty performance by junior Drew Rooks.

Rooks won his match at third singles 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 to clinch the victory for the Golden Warriors, but not before first having to fight through painful cramps that left him hobbled for much of the match.

Andover stays perfect

The Andover boys tennis team remained unbeaten on Saturday, sweeping Haverhill 5-0 to advance to the Division 1 North Semifinals. Andrew Imrie was particular strong at second doubles, winning 6-0, 6-0, and both of Andover's doubles teams won by that score as well.

Andover upset

In a battle of 6-0 powerhouses, Andover made a statement with a 4-1 win over defending Division 1 state champ Lexington. Coach Mike Wartman has well over 500 wins but this has to be one of the most special. His Golden Warriors swept the singles with Ryan Fu winning at No. 1 Andrew Imrie at No. 2 and Drew Rooks at No. 3. The second doubles team of Owen Meech-Arman Rafiee gutted out a 6-7, 6-3 (10-8) win.
