Fishermen use extra innings to knock off unbeaten Falcons

There are many different ways to celebrate an extra-innings victory over an undefeated archrival.

The Gloucester softball team decided to take part in a dance to the electric slide after their 5-4 victory over Danvers at Burnham's field. The Fishermen (5-3) had been waiting to bust out the line dance, and a win over Danvers was the perfect time to do it.

Big Blue walk off with win

Mallory McGrath's shot up the third base line scored Erin McLaughlin to break a 9-9 tie in the seventh inning as the Big Blue (3-2) walked off with their third straight win, 10-9 over Gloucester. Katherine Gorham and Sam Perry each drove in a pair to key an eight run fourth inning for Swampscott, which benefitted from three Fisherman errors.

Gloucester outlasts Winthrop in 11 innings

During last year's five-win season, the Gloucester softball team most likely would've never won a game like yesterday's contest with Winthrop. But what a difference a year can make.

The Fishermen hit the road to take on a Vikings team that went 14-6 last year. However, the visitors were able to outlast Winthrop in an 11-inning marathon, 9-6, improving to 3-0 on the season. Gloucester put the game away in the top of the 11th when Olivia Frontiero knocked in two runs with a double to make it 8-6. Ali Kippen, who had homered in the 10th, then singled in Frontiero for an insurance run.
