LAWRENCE — Pope John XXIII coach Jake Feraco watched Whittier play four times this winter so he had an airtight game plan heading into the Division 4 North semifinals.

“I noticed that with every time in the halfcourt set, they were bothered by man-to-man,” Feraco said. “So we knew we had to guard them halfcourt man-to-man. We knew we needed to keep the ball out of Michaela Martin’s hands because she’s a great playmaker.”

Olivia and Allison Beauchesne came off the bench to spark Whittier Tech in a 61-53 win over Burlington. Allison played shutdown defense Burlington's top gun, while Olivia chipped in seven points and four assists.

DANVERS — Prior to each game, Andover star forward Alyssa Casey takes a few moments to write down goals for that night, before folding the paper up and securing it safely in her right sock.

Leah Chittick delivered another monster night with 28 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists as North Andover avenged an early-season loss by beating undefeated Whittier 79-71. Megan Collins added 20 points and Abbie Karalis had 15 for the Scarlet Knights.

HAVERHILL — Andrea Terranova scored 15 points to surpass 1,000 points for her career and high-flying Whittier rolled over Methuen, 69-44.
"Andrea Terranova is a girl who has really worked on her game," said Whittier coach Kevin Bradley. "We're very proud of her. She can score (she now has 1,012 points) but has a lot of assists, too. She can drive by anybody with her speed and she's a threat from the outside. She made the commitment to be one of the best."
The 5-7 senior from Haverhill could be joined soon in the millennium club by Michaela Martin, who scored a game-high 19 points. Bradley said Martin should do the trick in the next game or two.
Whittier is a Division 4 school and the Rangers are in Division 1 but that has become commonplace for the 14-0 Wildcats, who already have eye-opening wins over North Andover and 2013 Division 1 state runner-up Holy Name of Worcester.
Bradley said, "These girls are working hard, they are just getting better. They are doing things that amaze me every night. I love the pressure. We tell them everybody want to be the first to knock you out."
Fourteen have tried and 14 have failed. And the schedule is rugged. The Cats only play six Commonwealth Conference game and then the rest non-league matchups.
Last night the high scoring Terranova-Martin duo got help from shotblocking whiz Samnell Vonleh (10 points, 13 blocks) and Dominique Ortiz (12 rebounds).

Whittier beat Mystic Valley 76-55 as Andrea Terranova had 19 points and Samnell Vonleh and Kiana Guadalupe 11 each. Coach Kevin Bradley says Terranova and Michaela Martin both could hit 1,000 points as Whittier hosts Methuen Tuesday at 7p.m. It's a busy week for the Cats who then host North Andover Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Trailing by 12 at the half, Division 4 Whittier stormed back against Division 1 Holy Name in their matchup in Worcester. Andrea Terranova hit two free throws with eight seconds left to give Whittier (12-0) the 61-59 win.
"We just shut them down in the second half. I was so proud of the way they played," said Whittier coach Kevin Bradley. "It was a tourney atmosphere."
Samnell Vonleh had a triple double (10 points, 10 rebounds, 11 blocks). Terranova finished with 20 points while Michaela Martin and Kiana Guadalupe added 11 each. Guadalupe's trifecta, her third of the game, gave the Cats their first lead with 90 seconds left.
Dominique Ortiz added a couple big late steals and Martin forced the host Naps into an off-balance three on their final possession.

 Samnell Vonleh (13 points/13 rebounds) and Dominique Ortiz (13 points/11 rebounds) had double-doubles and Andrea Terranova scored 22 as unbeaten Whittier downed Shawsheen 67-52.

Whittier stunned Central Mass. power Holy Name 54-53. The Cats (10-0) got a huge effort from Andrea Terranova. She scored 21 points, including the go-ahead driving layup with 15 seconds left. Then her defense at the other end thwarted the Naps and gave the Cats the huge upset. "It was back and forth," said Whittier coach Kevin Bradley. "It was like two heavyweights going at it. It was two of the top teams in the state going at it." Holy Name (now 10-2), which is ranked 10th in the ESPNBoston statewide poll, is ranked No. 1 in Central Mass. Last year it lost in the Division 1 Central finals to Westford and the year before the Naps lost to Central Catholic in the D1 state final. Junior Monica Vipiano, who has already committed to Bentley, was held in check by Whittier's 6-5 Samnell Vonleh. "She had 14 blocks. She was unbelievable. She was just a force," said Bradley. Vonleh, who also had 11 rebounds, owned the lane and Terranova did a little bit of everything. "Andrea supplied defense, ballhandling, she just did a great job on both ends," said Bradley. "She also hit a big 3 before the half. She rose to the occasion." This is getting old hat for Whittier, which also opened eyes around the state with a big win over North Andover. The Knights Friday night showed how good they are by toppling previously unbeaten Andover.

Michaela Martin scored 15 points and Kayla Riley netted 10 points to lead Whittier girls basketball 69-33 over Pope John.

The game initially was scheduled for today. But it was switched from today to yesterday (Sunday) so Samnell Vonleh (7 points vs. Pope John) and other Whittier players could watch Vonleh's brother Noah Vonleh make his TD Garden NBA debut.
