ACTON — Facing a smothering defense and a jet-quick offensive attack, No. 5 Andover struggled to find any momentum, falling to top-seeded Acton-Boxboro 11-4 in the Division 1 North boys lacrosse semifinals yesterday.

Andover's boys lacrosse team gave up only one goal in the first half and went on to knock off Masconomet 11-5 in Division 1 North action. Jake Lakos scored five goals, George Cardillo added four, Jesse Greaves stood out on faceoffs and Walter Pappas was excellent in net for the Warriors (16-6), making 18 saves.

Jake Lakos scored five goals and George Cardillo added four scores of his own as No. 5 Andover rolled over No. 12 Salem (Mass.) in the first round of the Division 1 North tourney. 

George Cardillo had three goals and Will Eikenberry and Hunter Tyrrell added two each as Andover beat Billerica 12-7 to clinch its first outright MVC championship since 2006, according to coach Wayne Puglisi. The MVC 1 champs were unbeaten overall in the conference at 11-0. 

Jake Lakos scored two of his six goals in the final quarter to break the tie as Andover boys lacrosse beat Londonderry 10-8. Andover freshman Mike Biddle chipped in with the first goal of his career. 

Jake Lakos had three goals and Will Eikenberry and John Oteri added two each as Andover doubled up on North Andover 10-5. Tom Stabile scored twice for the Knights.

Hunter Tyrell scored four goals and had two assists to lead Andover to a season-opening 13-5 victory over archrival Central Catholic.
