Monserrat shines

 

CHELMSFORD — On a day when St. John's Prep rolled to the Division 1 North sectional title, Christian Monserrat stole the spotlight.

 Monserrat not only won his fourth straight sectional title, but he captured his 200th victory and was named Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. he is now four wins shy of the Methuen scghool record of 204 wins set by John Sughrue.

Andover captures 1st dual win in two years

 

Andover captured its first wrestling dual meet in two years, 42-39 over Peabody. Sophomore Matt Stamos recorded the decisive points with a second-period pin at 195 and Patrick Meagher (120), Matt Marcotte (132) and Shaun Merrill (170) all picked up first-period pins.

Rally for Rangers

 

Tied with Westford at 28-28, Methuen's Saul Cabrera got a late takedown and back points for a 10-7 win at 195, Mike Golio followed with a pin at 220 and Alex Lima had a late takedown for a 9-8 decision as the Rangers defeated Westford 40-28 on their way to four wins at Lowell.

St. John's romps

 

The St. John's Prep wrestling team continued to trample its competition, routing Duxbury (74-0, Marshfield (67-6), Southeastern (76-6) and Pembroke (72-9) to improve to 10-1. Among those winning four matches were North Andover's Ben DiNatale (160), Ian Butterbrodt (220) and heavyweight Jay Carnevale. Andover's Solomon White was also 4-0 at 170.

Prep rolls on mat

 

St. John's Prep's wrestling team rolled past St. John's of Shrewsbury 63-9. Ben Nitale (160) of North Andover and Solomon White (170) of Andover both had pins in the rout. John Grady and Spencer Jenkins, both of North Andover, had major decisions.
