A late basket by Joe Kwiatkowski proved to be the game-winner as Londonderry survived a scare from Salem, winning 43-42 in the first round of the Division 1 tournament.

Matt Vartanian scored nine of his team-high 15 points in the fourth quarter, including going 7 of 7 from the line as Salem pulled away for a 59-47 win over Alvirne.

Salem hit for 10 3-pointers in a 74-39 win over Timberlane. Kenny Calabrese (10 points) had all three of his in the first quarter. Jared Gott (4 3-pointers) and Tim Dodier shared game-scoring honors with 14 points each.

Michael Felix poured in 21 points including a late free throw to ice it as Salem beat Memorial 67-63. Matt Vartanian (13) and Brent Barrett (10) also hit double figures.

Bedford outscored Salem 18-5 in the fourth to earn a 49-43 win. Michael Felix 13 pts and Tim Dodier 12 pts. for the Devils.

Amanda Bickford continues to tear it up inside, tossing in 21 points to lift Salem over Merrimack, 58-42.

Jared Gott exploded for 29 points (his career high had been 13) including six 3-pointers as Salem beat Dover 72-66. Fellow sophomore Matt Vartanian chipped in with 11 points and 15 big boards. 

After Salem boys basketball missed a shot with 10 seconds left, the Blue Devils fouled Winnacunnet with 3.3 seconds remaining.

Both free throws were successful and Winnacunnet took a 34-32 lead. 

Salem (1-4) broke into the win column by manhandling Nashua North 78-56. Brent Barrett (18 points) and Tim Dodier (17 points) combined for 25 of their 35 points in the second half and the Devils got huge contributions off the bench from Ike Latham (13 points) and Jared Gott (12 points). Matt Vartanian grabbed 11 rebounds.
