Lemieux sparks Astros

DERRY — On a memorable Senior Night for the Pinkerton wrestling team, it was a sophomore who led the way.

Jean-Luc Lemieux, who has had his ups and downs since moving up three weight classes to 126, was in peak form yesterday as he pinned Salem senior star Jon Rheaume, who won his weight class at the rugged Methuen Tournament, in the second period to spark Pinkerton to a 48-18 victory.

One-point thriller

 

Pinkerton's wrestling team edged Concord 37-36 for its first win over the Crimson Tide in five years. In a pair of pivotal matches, Brenden Sullivan had a huge win at 132, getting a takedown and near fall in the final 45 seconds for a 10-6 win at 132, and Tony Messina turned a 4-0 deficit into a third-period pin at 160.

'Low' win for Astros

 

Derek Low recorded a stunning 26-24 decision at 106 pounds to highlight Pinkerton's season-opening 45-27 victory over Manchester Central. The Astros won the last four weight classes with Hunter Morris starting the string with a 48-second pin.
