He went to the frosh phenom, the street kid turned conference MVP, the Ivy League-bound genius, the quarterback and his mini-Wes Welker security blanket in the fourth.

Reading inbounded under its own hoop with 1.1 seconds left and banked in a short jumper at the buzzer to beat Haverhill 53-51. Saul Phiri led the Hillies with 17 points.

HAVERHILL – What a difference 53 days – and a bunch of victories – make.

 Saul Phiri recorded a season-high in points (28) and rebounds (16) to lead Haverhill boys basketball 64-60 over Chelmsford. With the win, the Hillies claimed the MVC Small School title. 

Tommy Morgan drilled a big 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter to put Haverhill on top to stay as the Hillies held off Chelmsford, 54-50. Anthony Dionne had 18 points and 12 rebounds in the winning effort while Saul Phiri added 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Jordan Javier scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Anthony Dionne also tossed in 11 points as Haverhill beat Billerica 49-37. The Hillies have won 6 of their last 7 games.

METHUEN – The Haverhill boys were obviously just waiting for a new year to turn around their season.

Matt Jameson scored a career-high 28 points, and Haverhill earned its first win in Merrimack Valley Conference play this year, 78-52, at Tewksbury. Freshman Saul Phiri added 19, and Anthony Dionne chipped in 18 for the Hillies.

Freshman Saul Phiri tossed in 16 points to power Haverhill to a 48-38 win over Acton-Boxboro.

Haverhill's boys basketball team took out its frustration on Dracut yesterday, romping to a 78-38 victory for its first win of the season. The Hillies were winning 42-11 at halftime. Matt Jameson, Shain Roche and Anthony Dionne all scored a dozen for the Hillies (1-5).
