Thayer hit two free throws with three seconds left but Brooks managed to get off a good shot at the buzzer. The 3-pointer wouldn't fall and the Brooks boys lost 65-63.

Tom Palleschi notched his 1,000th career point during a 15-point effort as Phillips got past Thayer, 71-64. Brendan O'Connell hit a trio of 3-pointers on his way to a  team-best 18 points. Ryan Hartung added 17 for the 7-10 Big Blue.

Brooks downed Groton 57-39 in the semis and Thayer 63-51 in the finals to repeat as champion of the eight-team Huckins-Rouse Invitational. Tourney MVP Anthony Barry combined for 40 points in yesterday's two games and David Berroa pumped in 17 points in the title game. He nailed a halfcourt shot at the halftime buzzer and sank four trifectas in the second half. Jayde Dawson also made the all-tourney team.
