North Reading turning season around

NORTH ANDOVER — After opening the season losing five of its first eight games, North Reading might have found the right combination to winning softball.

With starter Terry Ferrazzani throwing strikes and her infield making the plays behind her, the Hornets won their third straight yesterday afternoon with a 5-0 victory over North Andover.

The kids are alright

Sophomore Kim Crucioli struck out eight and the top half of the North Andover lineup was on fire in a 7-5 victory over Masconomet. Leadoff hitter Sara McCarthy, also a sophomore, had three hits and scored three times while junior Gwen Vozeolas drove in three runs with her pair of singles. Eight of the Knights' 11 hits were delivered by underclassmen.

Fabulous frosh

 

Pentucket freshman Mary Kate Corrado had three hits and drove in six runs to power Pentucket to its first win, an impressive 12-2 thrashing of North Andover. Julianne Meehan was impressive on the mound, scattering seven hits while striking out nine and helped her own cause with two doubles, three hits overall, two RBIs and two runs scored. Sara McCarthy had a leadoff home run for North Andover.

Freshman shortstop Paige Ahlholm had a triple in her first at-bat,  three hits and three RBIs overall as North Andover opened its season with an impressive 9-0 win over Wilmington. Kim Crucioli three a two-hitter, striking out eight for the win, and chipped in with three hits of her own.
