North Andover's dream run through the Division 2 North tourney came to a sudden stop after Winchester issued the Knights a season-ending 5-0 loss.

The sixth-seeded Knights (15-5) won three tourney matches before yesterday's exit in the sectional finals.

Terranova carries Scarlet Knights

All the other matches were finished and North Andover and Cambridge were tied with a trip to the Division 2 North final on the line.

North Andover's Mike Terranova, a junior playing first singles, was the last set of the day. His game was tied 1-1, and with the other action complete, the attention of the entire court turned to the last set of the day.

Big win from Sherwin

Battling against a tough opponent, nagging calf cramps and 50 vocal Malden fans, Sherwin Yamin's stirring victory at second singles earned North Andover a 3-2 victory and a berth in the Division 1 North semifinals. Trailing 5-0 in the final set, Yamin fought off three match points to win seven straight games in a near-three-hour marathon.

Knight Might

Sophomore Andrew Smith and freshman Kyle White got North Andover off to a quick start with a 6-0, 6-3 win at second doubles and the Knights rolled past Malden Catholic, 5-0, in their tourney opener. Sherwin Yamin made it 2-0 with a convincing win at second singles and Mike Terranova clinched the win as he rolled at No. 1.

North Andover boys tennis ended its regular season on a high note yesterday, winning its fifth straight match with a 5-0 victory over North Reading. 

Alex Hammond won his No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-0.

Doubles comeback

 

The unbeaten Pentucket boys tennis team blanked North Andover 5-0, the highlight being the win first doubles Nick Giannino and B.G. Smith. They were blanked 6-0 in the first set but won the second set on a tiebreaker and then prevailed 6-1 in the clinching set.
