Closer than expected

 

Salem's softball team defeated winless Timberlane as expected yesterday, but it was hardly a rout, scoring all its runs in the fifth inning for a 4-0 victory.

"They've gotten a lot better and didn't play like a team that hadn't won a game," said Salem coach Harold Sachs.

Bracken delivers

 

Senior captain Sara Bracken went 2 for 2 at the plate with two RBIs and was outstanding defensively at second base as Salem remained unbeaten (7-0) with a 9-2 victory over Manchester Memorial.

Bauer power

 

 

One game after struggling a bit with her control, Salem pitcher Val Bauer was immense, throwing a three-hitter over six innings while striking out 12 without walking a batter as Salem blanked Exeter 4-0. Nicole Gubellini pitched a perfect seventh inning and had two hits and an RBI for the Blue Devils (6-0), who recorded their fourth shutout of the season.

Hurricane Nicole

Hurricane-like winds made the conditions difficult, but it was Hurricane Nicole who stole the show. Nicole Gubellini fanned eight and walked just one as Salem beat Bishop Guertin, 8-2, in a matchup of 4-0 clubs. Steph Long got the Devils off on the right foot with a lead-off homer. Samantha Cloutier added two hits and two runs and Jade Morrison shined behind the plate.

Streaks end,continues

 

After three shutouts in a row, Salem's softball team finally gave up some runs, but the Blue Devils (4-0) remained unbeaten with an 11-4 victory over Nashua North. Nicole Gubellini won her third game of the year, this time in relief, and was also 2 for 4 with an RBI while Sarah Bracken keyed a five-run first inning with a two-run double.

Dynamic Devils

 

Salem's softball team recorded its third straight shutout to open the season, 9-0 over Pinkerton, and has now outscored its opponents 23-0. Nicole Gubellini allowed one hit over six innings, striking out nine, and now has two wins and a save, and she also had a pair of hits and an RBI. Sophomore Sam Cloutier had her second 2 for 4 day with two RBIs of the season and Amanda Baron had two doubles and an RBI.

Impressive again

 

Two days after belting around Spaulding ace Paige Cormier, Salem's softball team knocked out Concord star Kelsey Martel on its way to a 5-0 victory.

"There's a long way to go, but this is about as good as we've looked this early," said Salem coach Harold Sachs.

Great opener

 

Steph Long tripled to start the game and the Salem bats remained hot throughout in an impressive 9-0 victory over Spaulding and its ace Paige Cormier.Jade Morrison, Sam Cloutier and Sarah Frahm all had two hits and Morrison scored three runs while Cloutier and Frahm had a pair of RBIs. Nicole Gubellini and Val Bauer combined on a two-hitter.
