Mike Downing delivered a two-run triple, and three batters later Joey DiPalma added a two-run double to spark a six-run third inning for Salem, leading the No. 2 Blue Devils to a 7-2 win over No. 15 Manchester Memorial in the first round of the Division 1 tournament.

Salem in general, and Joe DiPalma in particular, made Manchester Memorial pay for giving up 11 walks in just four innings of the Blue Devils' 15-1 victory. DiPalma had a three-run homer, an RBI single and a run-scoring walk to power the offense while Trevor Bouvier added a two-run double as part of his three-RBI effort.

Pinkerton's Drew Feeney and Manchester Memorial's Brett Beckwith locked up in a first-class pitcher's duel in Derry, but an untimely eighth-inning miscue combined with a single from Feeney to lift the Astros to a 1-0 victory. After Drew Sutherland led off the inning with a base hit, Bechwith balked him to second, setting the stage for Feeney's single up the middle to plate the winning run. Kyle Cahill stood out at shortstop with six assists, single-handedly keeping Pinkerton in the hunt with three strong fielding plays in the sixth inning.
