Lawrence's volleyball team tuned up for the state tournament with an impressive 3-2 win over a strong Milford team. Delfy Soler had 26 kills and 16 digs for the Lancers (17-3). Christopher Gil had 39 assists.

Milford holds off Raiders

Despite striking out 17 times against three-time state Gatorade Player of the Year Shannon Smith, Central Catholic had the tying run on base in the sixth inning before falling to Milford, 3-0, in the Division 1 semifinals. Krista Maloney's double and a pair of walks loaded the bases with two outs before a strikeout ended the Raiders' lone rally of the night. Leslie Moore had Central's other hit, a second-inning single, while drawing a pair of walks.

Lancers season ends in semis

Lawrence's season ended with a state semifinal loss, but the Lancers still piled up some amazing numbers during their 23-2 season. Here are a few of the most significant: • A 21-match winning streak in which it outscored opponents by a 63-9 margin. • Posted 16 shutouts • Entered last night's match having defeated its previous 13 opponents by a combinied 39-2 with 11 shutouts. "This season meant a lot to all of us," coach Tony Hajjar said of his 16th season. "It was definitely a good season. It was definitely one of my most special teams."
