Ponzini, Windham headed to sixth straight title game

Sophia Ponzini scored three goal, sending two-time defending Division 1 champion No. 3 Windham field hockey back to the state title game for the sixth straight season with a 4-3 victory over No. 2 Bedford in the Division 1 semifinals. 

Ella Reeners added the other goal for the Jaguars (15-2-1), while Annie Mitchell made five saves, including a crucial stop off a stroke with less than five minutes to play in the game. 

Windham will look to win its fourth state title in five years when it takes on top-seeded Exeter on Sunday (11 a.m.) at Bedford High School.

Good effort

 

Windham's volleyball team gave unbeaten Bedford a battle in a 3-1 loss. It was the first set Bedford had dropped all year and all the sets were competitive. Sam Blandford had 30 assists and five aces for the Jaguars (14-2).

Max Lukeman won at No. 6, 43-44, to give Pinkerton golf the tie-breaker over Bedford. Both clubs finished with 195s. Nashua South was well back at 217. The Astros' Julianna Megan shot a 1-under 35.

Rough second period dooms Windham in quarterfinals

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Windham matched Bedford shot for shot in the first period, and controlled play for nearly the entire third. But the middle period doomed the Jaguars.

No. 2 Bedford struck for all five of its goals in the second period, on the way to defeating  No. 7 Windham 5-2 in the Division 1 quarterfinals on Saturday at Sullivan Arena at Saint Anselm College.

Timberlane crushed three opponents in a quad-meet to improve to 14-2. Codey Wild (132) and Nick Pallaria (138) were both 3-0 with three pins and vastly improved Anthony Rousseau (152) was 3-0 with two pins. Freshman Malikai Colon were among several other unbeaten Owls on the day.

DaSilva beats buzzer and Bedford

Joey DaSilva nailed a 27-footer at the buzzer to give Windham its first lead of the game and a 58-56 win over Bedford. DaSilva had 18 points and four 3-pointers while Westin Lippold had a monster game with 22 points. Bedford missed its final four free throws.
