With top scorer Stephen Spirou out of the game with an ankle injury, Brett Bailey stepped up with 13 of his 15 points in the second half as Pelhem topped Bedford 57-51.

Steve Spirou scored 36 points with three 3-pointers and lead Pelham to a 67-47 win over Bedford.

Brenden Heinze netted a short-handed goal in the first and two more for the hat trick in Timberlane's win over Bedford 6-0. Brett Laperriere saved 16 shots, shutting out Bedford.

Windham won the first two games but lost the next two and was nipped 18-16 in the deciding Game 5 against Bedford in the opening round of the Division 2 state tourney.

"To make it to the playoffs our first year as a varsity program is awesome!'' said Jaguars coach Jill Bartlett, whose team finished at 8-9. "I am really proud of the girls. Our inexperience with situations like this showed a bit."

Windham's volleyball had its biggest win to date, upsetting Bedford in five games.

"Hands down, it's the best we played and against a good team," said Windham coach Jill Bartlett. "We really came ready to play."

Pelham pulled its defense together in the second half and made a hard charge at Bedford, falling just short in a battle of top Division 2 teams, 4-3. Rafael DeCampos got momentum on the Pythons' side when he connected from 35 yards out. Midfielder Brandon Skinner and forward Alec Paradis put heavy pressure on Bedford's backs to shut its offense down.

PELHAM — If anyone thought things couldn’t get worse for Pelham after a 45-point pounding from Con-Val last week, unfortunately it could.

Even after removing its starting units nine seconds into second quarter play, Bedford continued to torture the undermanned Pythons, strutting away to a 48-0 victory last night.

Seven weeks ago, Pelham boys tennis was 1-2 and coming off a 9-0 shellacking to Bedford.

But the Pythons turned it around big-time and nearly won the Class I championship. Against that same Bedford squad which had humiliated them in mid-April, the Pythons put up a game fight before falling 5-4 in the title match.

Jesse Vaiknoras had Pelham's lone base hit in a 9-0 loss to Bedford.

Senior Jacqui Perry was her usual dominant self and got a lot of help from junior Kathryn Demetri, but Pelham fell to Bedford in three tight games. Perry rolled up big stats (team-leading 6 kills, 3 blocks, 8 assists and 16 digs) while Demetri (6 assists, quality defense) had her best match of the season.
