Pentucket routs O'Bryant

Nearly the entire Pentucket boys soccer program got in on the action as the Sachems blew out O'Bryant 5-0 in Friday's first round Division 3 North tournament game.

Jake Dickson and Matt Maloney each had two goals in the win, and Jacob Deziel scored the other to lead the offense. Pentucket held a comfortbale 4-0 lead at halftime, and coach Christian Langlois said he ultimately got 33 players into the game, including three goalies.

NECC wins in tourney

 

The Northern Essex Community College men's basketball team won its first game in the NJCAA Region 21 tournament, 95-70 over Springfield Tech. The Knights had six players in double figures, led by Kevin Brito with 16. Others for the Knights were Dominic Dar (15), Lawrence's Felix Moore (15), Haverhill's Matt Jameson (13), Angelo Pilato (11) and Trace Schaejbe (11).

Whittier, O'Bryant

HAVERHILL — Hunter McKinnon scored twice to help Whittier to a 35-20 win over O'Bryant. McKinnon scored on a 30-yard run and an 8-yard pass from Jon Lech. Eli Perez had a sack and two fumble recoveries, Brendan Farrell recorded six tackles and Devon Braley and Sam Rebinskas did a nice job in pass coverage. "We've learned how to close games out," said Whittier coach Kevin Bradley, whose club improved to 3-7. The Cats are at Greater Lawrence on Thanksgiving at 10 a.m.

Trailing 2-0 in the 7th inning, Georgetown got three straight singles to load the bases and then pulled ahead after Richie Gray scored on an error, Brett Mastrangelo came home on a force out and Alex Bornholdt scored the go-ahead run on an errant throw past first. The Royals will face Matignon in the Division 4 North finals on Saturday at LeLacheur Park in Lowell at 10 a.m.
