Andover goalie Kyle Berthiaume did it again for  the Andover hockey team. Two days after holding unbeaten Central Catholic to a 1-1 tie, he made 32 saves as the Warriors blanked a solid Wakefield team, 1-0. Paul Russell scored for the Warriors.

Scarlet Knights fall in quarters

In spite of putting up a tremendous effort in the Division 2 North quarterfinals, the North Andover girls soccer team fell to Wakefield on a last minute goal.

Wakefield got on the board in the opening half, but DeeDee Fagan scored the equalizer with under 10 minutes to play in the second half. Jackie Sullivan and Katie Moroney assisted on the play. and it was Fagan's 20th goal of the season.  However, with under a minute to go, Wakefield pulled ahead for good, sending the Scarlet Knights to their second-straight quarterfinals loss.

Beverly still undefeated after stopping Wakefield

Junior Matt Lanza picked up his first varsity win with two innings of shutout relief and the Panthers broke a 4-4 tie in the fifth inning and dropped Wakefield 7-4.

Knocking in runs for undefeated Beverly (3-0) were Connor Walsh, Jack Leathersich, Sam Cohen and Chris Freni. Leathersich slammed the door from the hill in the final innig while Nick Tolanto turned in a solid start.

Top-seeded Marblehead boys basketball team falls

MARBLEHEAD | Marblehead High's boys basketball team made a living with its suffocating defense this season. But it expired in the Division 2 North Tournament due to its lack of offense.

The top-seeded Magicians were about as sound as they've been all season against Wakefield, but they were held under double digits in two of the four quarters in a 50-43 loss before a near capacity crowd here Saturday night.

Pinkerton's top line of Doug Schultz, Jeremy Lavoie and Eddie Galvin combined for three goals and six assists as the red-hot Astros downed Wakefield, 4-3, in an interstate matchup.

For the Bishop Fenwick girls soccer team and their 10 seniors, the 2007 season did not end the way they had hoped. The fourth-seeded Crusaders were upset in the Division 3 North quarterfinals yesterday by No. 12 Wakefield, falling 2-0 at home.

Swampscott loses on penalty kicks

Wakefield goalie Erin Jackson made one stop on penalty kicks and that was the difference in this Div. 2 North first round matchup. Swampscott keeper Tara Nimkar played well, making 15 saves, but the Big Blue couldn't capitalize on several scoring opportunities.
