Salem's wrestling team improved to 6-2-1 with three wins and an impressive 39-39 tie with highly regarded Wakefield. Among the Blue Devils who were unbeaten on the day was heavyweight Josh Ozoria, who had four first-period pins.

CJ Brown won his second tournament in two weeks in impressive fashion and Joe Gangi followed his lead as Methuen finished fourth at the Wakefield Tournament.
Brown (170) and Gangi (138) won all their matches with first period pins with Gangi getting a 35-second fall in the finals. Also for the Rangers, Michael Crowe was the runner-up at 113 while freshmen Jack Stoddard (106) and surprising Josiah Concepcion took thirds.

Coach Mike Bolduc said the big turning points were tough wins by Jonathan Davila at 145 over a WHS captain and by Elias Maita at 160 over the Salem Blue Devil Classic champ.

But Wakefield took the lead thanks to a corner kick, and added insurance with a minute left to beat the Raiders, 3-1, in the Division 2 North quarterfinals.

WAKEFIELD — Quarterback Shamil Diaz (21-259) and running back Maleek Dejesus (17-124) controlled the clock and Greater Lawrence earned a big season-opening win over Wakefield. The Reggies had the clock approximately 10 minutes on a fourth-quarter drive which didn't result in points but sealed the win.
