Krishnamachr leads Phillips

Ambika Krishnamachr potted two goals to lead Phillips to a 3-1 win over BB&N in the New England Prep tournament. The Big Blue trailed 1-0 at the half, but Krishnamachar scored twice and Emily Little added an insurance goal. Phillips travels to top-ranked Nobles on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Penalty kick does it
After losing a 1-0 halftime lead, with BB&N scoring two quick goals, Brooks stormed back for a 3-2 win, thanks to a penalty kick by Andover's Marina Moschitto with eight minutes left. She got the kick after Amelia Hammerl, who scored the first two Brooks goals, was taken down in the goalie box.

Huge upset

After opening the season with two straight losses, the Brooks boys soccer team needed a boost and they got it yesterday with a 2-1 win over BB&N, the defending Independent School League champion and a Prep Class A finalist. "This was an enormous upset," said Brooks coach Dusty Richard. "They only lost one player from last year." Ayo Awuagwu had a goal and an assist for Brooks and Ryan Daley also scored. Andreas Burbank-Crump of North Andover was superb on defense and goalie Glen Martin shined while making 12 saves.

Brooks falls in opener

NORTH ANDOVER — It wasn’t the start that Brooks wanted for the beginning of the Alex Konovalchik era.

Playing in its first ever night game, Brooks stayed close through the first half before BB&N opened the game up with three scores in the third quarter and cruised to a 42-13 win at North Andover High’s Walsh Field.

Brooks gets winning run in 7th

Brooks Baseball and the Knights from BBN hooked up in what was a top notch high school baseball game. The two teams battled all afternoon as the pitching set the pace for what was a quick and clean baseball game. Michael Johnson was the stand out of the day as the junior left hander pitched a complete game to carry Brooks to victory.

Minaya, Rey lead Pingree baseball

Juniors Jolmi Minaya and Lamarre Rey teamed up to produce a triumphant day for the Pingree School baseball team yesterday.

Minaya struck out nine batters over six innings to earn the win and added two hits and an RBI offensively while Rey went 3 for 4 with two triples, a double and three RBIs as the Highlanders went on the road to beat Buckingham, Browne & Nichols, 7-3.

BB&N's McCaffrey gives Brooks fits

CAMBRIDGE | Brooks will be having nightmares about BB&N's Jimmy McCaffrey for weeks.

The sophomore sensation, son of Holy Cross basketball Hall of Famer Jim McCaffrey, scored on two punt returns | a 65-yarder and a 52-yarder | in a 35-6 season-opening win over the Green and White. McCaffrey, a 5-11, 171-pound transfer from Winchester High, also scored on a 35-yard pass from quarterback Michael DiChiara. He now has five TDs in two games.
