In what was billed as the "match of the night," Methuen's Adam Rader earned a big win at 126 over defending sectional champ Matt Bobola of Xaverian. That helped the Rangers take a season-opening 48-30 win.

Despite missing five of its best starters with injuries, North Andover swept a quad-meet at home. Joey Valentino was 3-0 with three pins but it was fill ins like Anthony McCann and senior Jacob Williams who came up big time for the Knights. Will Schimmoeller, at 170, also had a big day with three wins.

Methuen opened its dual-meet season with a 57-24 victory over Xaverian as Justin Sheehan at 138 started a string of six straight pins ending with 182-pounder Jose Diaz.

First-year wrestler Nick Avellani, a freshman, earned his first varsity win, a 14-11 decision, to help Methuen defeat Xaverian, 43-29. Seniors Evan Stoddard, Jack Kraunelis and Dan O’Connell had first period pins.

Heavyweight Stanley Alberto remained unbeaten for Lawrence, which won four of five meets at Masconomet, losing only to Div. 2 power Natick. Albert had all pins, including over the Xaverian heavyweight with 17 seconds left in the match while losing 9-0.

Methuen's wrestling team had nine pins, including seven in the first period, in a 66-10 rout of Xaverian. Freshman first-year wrestler Jarmany Colon won his first varsity match with a 6-2 decision at 106.

FOXBORO — Mike Milano thought back to the days as a youngster, sitting in front of the TV and watching the Patriots make history at Gillette Stadium.

He thought of the blazing hot August practices that seemed as if they would never end, and of the thrilling victories and the devastating losses he and his teammates had experienced.

Windham High led by double digits most of the night before falling in a buzzer-beating heart-breaker to Xaverian Brothers, 54-53. Andrew Lowman led the Jaguars with 22 points, and Conor Redmond added 11.

Trailing by 10 points with two matches remaining, Methuen got pins from Christian Monserrat and Aaron Labrecque to pull out a 39-37 win over Xaverian. Gio Rivera grabbed a pivotal 9-8 overtime decision at 170.
