Brendan Dodier threw a 3-hitter as Whittier trimmed Northeast, 4-3. Shortstop Justin Gauthier and second baseman Manny Cepeda led a defense which turned three double plays.

Whittier Tech's girls lacrosse team won its first-ever varsity game, in four years of competition, defeating Northeast 11-8. Sophomore twins Sammy and Hannah Azzari scored three goals each and freshman Liz Deacon also had a hat trick.

WEST ANDOVER — Greater Lawrence took a 13-0 lead into the fourth quarter, before Northeast struck for three scores. But the Reggies were able to respond twice, and Alvin Torres recovered a game-clinching onside kick with 0:24 left as Greater Lawrence earned its first win of the season, 25-22 on Friday.

It was a rough shooting night, but Aliyah Talley finished with 19 points to lead Whittier to a 45-44 win over Northeast. It was a good win for the Wildcats (11-3), who host the rematch against Greater Lowell on Friday (5:15 p.m.).

Whittier Tech had a huge 52-point second half to pull away from Northeast for a 70-52 victory. Anthony Couture led the way with with 22 points and 10 rebounds and Yuki Efosa chipped in with 8 points and 10 rebounds.

Whittier Tech's girls handed Northeast just its second loss of the season in impressive fashion, 57-39, as Grace Efosa poured in 28 points and Aleyah Talley added 15. Freshman Linda Bullis and Daniel Lear each had four steals for the Wildcats (8-3).

Jeremiah Mejia drilled five 3-pointers and poured in 33 points as Greater Lawrence thumped Northeast 59-47. The Wildcats rode a 25-point first quarter.

WAKEFIELD — Whittier had its chances, but couldn't capitalize late against a stout Northeast defense.

Trailing 12-0 in the third, the Wildcats made it a one-score game when Joe Iannalfo plunged in on a 5-yard touchdown and had a chance to tie midway through the fourth. But Northeast got a stop, and added a late touchdown to close out a 20-6 win Saturday morning.

In her second game as a starter, Greater Lawrence freshman Kyara Morales led the Reggies in serice points (12), aces (5) and digs (13) in a 3-1 win over Northeast.

Nicole Verrette opened Whittier's 12-2 win over Northeast by striking out the first 15 batters she faced, and finished with 16 on the day. Alicia Habib hit a home run and knocked in three RBIs for the Wildcats.
