WAKEFIELD — Northeast scored the go-ahead touchdown with 32 seconds left but Whittier made an improbable comeback. According to coach Kevin Bradley, Niko Burke returned the kick to midfield then the Cats' Cam West completed passes to Julian Torres, Noah Mercier and Burke. Ben Hussey, who booted his second field goal of the season earlier in the game, attempted a long 44-yard with a second to play. But it fell just a few yards short and the hosts (now 6-2) prevailed 18-16. West threw TD passes to Mercier and Burke. Linebacker Jyzaiah Ferreira and free safety Burke "were all over the place," said Bradley. The loss will likely keep the Wildcats (4-4) out of the playoffs. Pairings will be announced Monday.

WAKEFIELD — Greater Lawrence quarterback Manny Vasquez had a career day Saturday but it wasn't enough to prevent a 40-20 loss to Northeast.

Vasquez completed 25 of 37 passes for a whopping 412 yards whicj, accoring to statistics man Dan Thompson is a likely school record.He threw for two TDs, to Andy Esquivel and Casey Mansaur, both in the second half.

Twins Hannah (4 kills, 11 points, 6 aces) and Samantha Azzari (6 assists) powered Whittier volleyball pst Northeast, 3-0.

The Whittier cross country teams both easily downed Northeast.  Noel Tripp and Madalyne Pulsifer went 1-2 for the girls while Mike Driscoll and Jack Ventura were 1-2 for the boys.

Alicia Habib and Alyssa Michel accounted for all five of Whittier's hits in a 3-2 win over Northeast. Habib scored twice and Michel had two RBIs as the unbeaten Wildcats (7-0) scored the decisive run in the seventh in their toughest game to date.

They might sound like a law firm but (Emily) Graham and (Alyssa) Michel were the keys for Whittier in a 7-1 win over Northeast. Graham pitched a 3-hitter, striking out 13, while Michel was 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs.

Victor Roa did plenty of damage out of the No. 9 spot, going 2 for 3 with three RBIs, and was the winning pitcher as Greater Lawrence earned its first victory of the season, 12-10 over Northeast. Roderick Martinez added two hit and scored twice and Christopher Frica drove in two for the Reggies.
